STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— A Staten Island woman struck by a car while crossing the street in New Dorp has agreed to a settlement in state Supreme Court, St. George, records show.

Yan Lin Zheng, 28, of New Dorp Beach, will receive $650,000 for what court documents alleged to be serious injuries that required medical care, lost wages and emotional distress experienced as a result of the 2022 incident.

Her attorney, Michael Bush with Staten Island-based Chelli and Bush, filed the suit calling for $2 million in damages.

The defendants were represented by attorneys for Geico Insurance.

THE CRASH

Emergency personnel responded around 6 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2022, to a New Dorp intersection for a report of the crash, according to court documents.

Zheng was transported by ambulance to Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze, with what her lawyers described as a scalp hematoma and an ankle injury that later required surgery.

The defendants — identified in the civil complaint as Aimy George, 31, and Jose George of Elm Park — were acting in a “reckless” manner when a 2013 Ford was operated at a speed “beyond its braking power” by the former, according to attorney Michael Bush for the plaintiff.

As the vehicle hung a right, “without notice, warning or signal” from Mill Road onto Ebbitts Street, it struck the plaintiff who was attempting to cross at a marked crosswalk, the complaint alleges.

Zheng, who was working as a health aide at a rehabilitation facility in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, was bed-ridden for several months and further limited thereafter in her daily tasks, court documents alleged.

A man who answered a phone listed for Aimy George referred comment to Geico. Attorneys for Geico did not respond to a request for comment.
