STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The political arena has been critiqued as feeling more like the Senior Olympics than a battle of the cunning for the highest seat in the United States.
Many say the recent presidential debate failed to inspire confidence in either candidate — in fact, most viewers seemed either unimpressed or disgruntled by the performances. Donald Trump continued to spread misinformation, while President Joe Biden looked and sounded worse for wear.
Nevertheless, Biden is adamant that he will stay in the race, even going as far to say this of his looming replacements, according to the Los Angeles Times: “Go ahead. Challenge me at the convention.”
But as the debate aftermath continues to rain down, calls for Biden to drop out of the race are now ringing out from both sides of the aisle. It bodes a serious question: Who will Gen Z vote for if Biden does drop out?
After all, as of 2022, there are nearly 70 million Gen Zers in the United States, as seen on Statista. According to the Pew Research Center, only 8% of Gen Z voted in 2020, with 15% of Gen Z being labeled as “non-voters.”
Gen Zers include anyone born between 1997 and 2012. So, for people born in 2006, and before Election Day — which falls on November 5 this year — you can join the ranks of the Staten Island electorate.
According to recent Advance/SILive.com reporting, only 39.2% of 18-year-olds in Richmond County are registered to vote.
