STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — In a heartwarming act of genuine compassion and dedication, 10-year-old Robert Philip Gill, a student at P.S. 1 in Tottenville, has made a significant contribution to children battling cancer. Inspired by a story he heard a couple of years ago about hair donations for cancer patients, Robbie decided to grow out his hair to donate it to children in need.

Robbie’s parents, Krystal and Philip Gill, recall the moment their son shared his wish to help. “He was so touched by the story,” said Krystal. “He told us that night he wanted to grow his hair out for kids with cancer.”

To fulfill his goal, Robbie needed to grow his hair to at least eight inches, a process that took him two years and required great determination. “There were times when I wanted to stop, but I kept telling myself to stay strong and not give up,” said Robbie. “I was excited that I finally got to cut my hair and make that donation.”

During this period of growing out his hair, Robbie’s family, including his older brother Logan, 11, and younger sister Skyler, 7, supported his mission. On the day of the big haircut, Robbie visited the Mancave on Page Avenue. The staff was incredibly supportive and impressed by his dedication.

“My nephew Robbie grew out his hair for two years to donate to kids with cancer,” said his aunt, Tara Lombardo. “He’s adorable and I am so proud of him for being so compassionate and the world needs more people like him. Robbie is an amazing kid with a heart of gold.”

After the haircut, Krystal sent Robbie’s hair to Hair We Share, a reputable organization that provides free human hair wigs to people experiencing medical hair loss. “We are so proud of Robbie,” said Robbie’s dad Philip, a city Department of Sanitation worker. “He showed incredible patience and empathy throughout this journey.”

To celebrate Robbie’s achievement, the Gill family hosted a party at the Tottenville Swim Club, complete with a cake. The event was a joyous occasion, with family and friends coming together to honor Robbie’s selfless act.

When not busy with helping those in need, Robbie enjoys his hobbies, including jujutsu, flag football and baseball.
