NYPD: Staten Island man kicked in door in burglary, caught with drugs

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 59-year-old man was caught with drugs in Travis more than a month after he burglarized an apartment on an afternoon in Graniteville, authorities allege.

Vincent Cavaliere, of the 5200 block of Arthur Kill Road in Tottenville, kicked in an apartment door in the vicinity of Regis Drive and Farragut Avenue on April 8 at about 3:10 p.m., the criminal complaint alleges.

The defendant entered the apartment and then left carrying a power saw in his hand, before placing the tool in his blue 2010 Cadillac DTS and driving away from the location, the complaint alleges.

More than two months later, on June 12 at about 1:40 a.m., officers say they spotted Cavaliere idling in his car for more than three minutes in the vicinity of Chelsea Road and Edward Curry Avenue.

Officers saw a cap containing cocaine on Cavaliere’s lap and two plastic zipper bags containing cocaine rocks inside a cup holder in the center console, the complaint alleges.

Cavaliere did not show a driver’s license when requested by officers and his driving privileges were suspended or revoked, according to the complaint.

The defendant and the victim of the burglary were strangers, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

The defendant has been charged with burglary, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, petit larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance, a motor vehicle license violation, trespass and operation of a motor vehicle that is idling.

Cavaliere has pleaded not guilty to all charges, has been released with non-monetary considerations and is due back in Criminal Court on Aug. 12, according to public records.

An attorney for the defendant did not immediately respond to request for comment.
