STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Twelve vehicle thefts were reported on Staten Island in the week of June 24 through 30, according to NYPD data.

Despite the number, the amount of automobile thefts reported in the borough this year has decreased. Car thefts reported through June 30 dropped 22% (162 vs. 208) when compared to the same period in 2023, according to the NYPD’s latest CompStat figures.

The database indicates that 10 cars and two motorcycles were stolen on Staten Island between June 24 and 30 — the most recent week for which statistics are available.

Here’s a look at those incidents:

— On June 24 at 3 a.m., a car theft was reported on Nostrand Avenue and Lisa Place in Bulls Head.

— On June 26 at 1 a.m., a car theft was reported at the intersection of Fingerboard Road and Narrows Road South in Arrochar.

— On that same day at 1 p.m., a motorcycle theft occurred at Clermont Avenue and Swinnerton Street in Tottenville.

— Also at 1 p.m., a motorcycle theft was reported at Drumgoole Road West and Marcy Avenue in Huguenot.

— Later that same day at 11 p.m., a car theft was reported at Davis and Whitewood avenues in West Brighton.

— On June 27 at 6 a.m., a car theft was reported at the intersection of Faber and Larkin streets in Port Richmond.

— On June 28 at 3 p.m., three a car thefts were reported on Staten Island. The first car theft was reported in West Brighton at the intersection of Clove Road and Allen Court. The next car theft was at Wayne Street and North Burgher Avenue, also in West Brighton. The final theft was reported in Eltingville at the intersection of Oakdale Street and Lyndale Avenue.

— On June 29 in Concord, a car was reported stolen at Targee Street and DeKalb Avenue at 7 a.m.

— Later that day at 1 p.m., a car theft occurred at the intersection of Purroy Place and Targee Street in Stapleton.

— On June 30 in Great Kills, a car was reported stolen at Lamoka and Fern avenues at 9 a.m.

The NYPD enacted a tactical shift at the end of last summer, developing an intricate, multi-state system to gather and analyze intelligence as a strategy to crack down on car thefts and burglaries in particular, Assistant Chief Joseph Gulotta, the NYPD borough commander, told the Advance/SILive.com in a December interview.
