STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Over the past year, Tysens Park Shopping Center has undergone some major changes: Wendy’s began construction of its seventh borough restaurant there in September and bakery café chain Paris Baguette swung its doors open for business in October. And now several more brands have recently announced that they will open in the Oakwood hotspot in just a few months’ time.
“The culture of Rumble Boxing and Staten Island perfectly intersect,” noted Ryan Jones, who will open a Rumble Boxing studio in Tysens Park Shopping Center this fall. “Rumble Boxing was always meant to have a presence on ‘The Island.’”

Located in one of the center’s 23 storefronts, Rumble is a boutique boxing-inspired fitness concept that has attracted social media attention thanks to celebrities like Kendall Jenner, Justin Beiber and Kevin Hart. Known for its water-filled teardrop boxing bags and six-punch combos, Rumble divides its classes between skills-and-drills work and resistance strength circuits that are delivered in 45-minute, 10-round workouts. Classes are slated to begin at the Staten Island location this fall.
UrgentVet, a nationally recognized pet care clinic that is well-known for its after-hours convenience and affordability, has also announced its intentions to open in the center. Banner signage has already been hung for the clinic, which will be open 365 days a year, from 3 p.m. until 11 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on weekends. The franchise has indicated it will open in winter of 2025.

And while Wendy’s has not yet announced an official opening date, work on the drive-thru restaurant – which is located in the stand-alone space formerly inhabited by Pizza Hut and then Friendly’s - seems close to completion. Banner signage is already displayed, and traffic markers are in place. A leasing agent for the property could not confirm a grand opening timeline.
According to Department of Building records, the Tysens Park Shopping Center was built in 1970 and occupies 12.5 acres or approximately 546,000 square feet. The property comprises eight single-story commercial buildings and 731 accessory off-street parking spaces.
