New York Giants Draft Prospect Profile: RB Evan Hull

If the Giants are looking for a rotational running back, Evan Hull could be it.

Evan Hull, RB

Height: 5-foot-10⅛
Weight: 209 lbs.
Class: Fourth-year Junior
School: Northwestern

Evan Hull was the 44th-ranked running back in the 2019 recruiting class out of Osseo, Minnesota. Hull had 18 scholarship offers out of high school, with Northwestern and Kansas State being the only power five programs to offer.

Strengths

  • Was the third-fastest running back at the Senior Bowl, topping out at 19.89 MPH
  • Is about as consistent as you can get as a pass-catcher
  • Does a good job of putting his shoulder down and falling forward
  • Loves to get moving downhill as a runner
  • Special teams experience as a return man
  • Runs with good balance, can take light-to-moderate contact and keep churning

Weaknesses

  • Doesn’t consistently hit that top gear he showed at the Senior Bowl
  • Very tight as a runner
  • Needs work as a pass-protector at the next level--the effort is there though
  • Too often tries to go to where the rushing lane might be instead of where it is
  • While he gets his shoulder down to fall forward, doesn’t consistently create extra yardage

Summary

Evan Hull was somebody I ignored, for the most part, going into the Senior Bowl, but he showed up and made plays consistently, flashing speed I hadn’t seen from him when watching Northwestern. If he can maintain that level of play and work on his pass protection, he’s going to be a committee back for a long time.
