Miles Sanders went over 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career, and the Philadelphia Eagles let him walk to the Carolina Panthers as a free agent.

D’Andre Swift followed up Sanders’ performance from two years ago by topping 1,000 yards rushing for the first time in his career this past season. Will the Eagles let their top running back walk in free agency, too?

Swift is in Orlando right now getting ready to participate in his first Pro Bowl on Sunday. His first stop was on a studio couch to tape a podcast with Dallas Cowboys star pass rusher Micah Parsons.

It was an interesting dynamic with two players from NFC East rivals chopping it up on the comfort of a couch.

“At the end of the day, it’s all love,” said Parsons. “Me and Swift have been locked in since high school, same seven-on-seven teams, the same recruiting process.”

Parsons, taken 12th overall in the 2021 draft, and Swift, selected 35th overall in 2020, didn’t grow up far apart. Swift was raised in the Philly area, attending St. Joseph’s Prep, and Parsons in mid-state, outside Harrisburg, attending Central Dauphin High.

The two native Pennsylvanians commiserated on being two of the league’s best teams but bowing out early in the postseason.

Swift spoke for both of them on the disappointing end of their seasons when he said, “Knowing we had the team that could go the whole way and we fell short. We had the talent to do it, but we just came up short. That’s where the frustration really is.”

Parsons asked Swift about his potential return to Philly.

“I’m waiting right now,” he said. “Feel like we’ll see what happens. Time will tell with that. Just kind of focusing on training and stuff like that right now because I don’t know what’s going on right now, waiting on phone calls to see what’s going on. We’ll see when it gets there when the time is right.”

Maybe the difference between Sanders and Swift will be the draft capital the Eagles gave up acquiring Swift during last year’s draft.

Granted, the Eagles used a second-round pick on Sanders in 2019 and then let his rookie contract expire last year, but Philly gave up a 2025 fourth-round pick and a 2023 seventh-round pick (No. 219 overall) in exchange for Swift and a seventh-round pick (No. 249) in last year’s draft.

The Eagles have only one running back under contract, and it’s not Swift, Boston Scott, or Rashaad Penny. It’s Kenny Gainwell, who is in the final year of his rookie deal and, as a fifth-round pick, has a salary cap charge of just $1.1 million.

He’ll be back.

Will Swift?

“I think I proved a lot to myself first and foremost,” he said, “but I’m just getting started, to be honest. I’m just scratching the surface of everything that I can do. I’m just getting started.”
