Community / Power cut caused by contractor striking underground cable
AROUND 300 homes lost power this morning (Tuesday) after a contractor struck an underground electricity cable.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident, which happened at around 8.20am.
A spokesperson for SSEN Transmission said the contractor involved was working on the Kergord-Gremista 132kV connection project.
This project includes the installation of new underground and overhead power lines.
The spokesperson confirmed there were no injuries as a result of the incident.
Supply was returned to the vast majority of customers within an hour.
The spokesperson said shortly before midday: “SSEN Distribution has safely restored power to the majority of households, with around seven customers remaining off supply.
“These remaining properties will be reconnected following repairs to the damaged cable, which are now underway.
“We thank those affected for their patience while engineers work to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”
The seven customers without power are expected to have power switched back on by around 4pm.
