Community / Coastline fundraiser to return to Hildasay to scatter dog’s ashes
A FUNDRAISER who walked the UK’s coastline is set to return to Shetland and the uninhabited island of Hildasay to scatter the ashes of his beloved dog.
Chris Lewis was accompanied by his dog Jet on his lengthy travels, with the pair ending up with a particular affinity for Shetland during his fundraising trek in aid of the armed forces charity SSAFA.
During their time together they had a three-month stay on Hildasay to isolate at the height of the Covid lockdown.
A book the former paratrooper wrote about his travels was even named Finding Hildasay.
Sadly his beloved companion Jet had to be put down earlier this year after the dog’s health deteriorated.
But speaking on social media over the weekend, Lewis confirmed that he plans to return to Shetland to scatter Jet’s ashes on Hildasay.
He said: “I have decided to travel to Shetland in the next few weeks so I can spread her ashes on the island of Hildasay where she was the most content I’d ever seen her.
“Once that is done I shall be ready to move forward and continue on our next adventure.
“So many epic adventures, but now it’s time to say my final goodbye to my beautiful Jet. Shetland, I’ll see you soon.”
Lewis previously said that Jet helped to “fix him” after suffering from depression.
His fundraising page has so far attracted donations totalling nearly £400,000.
He set up on his walk around the UK coastline back in 2017. Since then, he met his partner Kate, with the pair having their son Magnus in 2022.
