Community / Shetland Pride puts call out for volunteers ahead of weekend’s event
AHEAD of this weekend’s Shetland Pride the charity is asking for volunteers to help in the event.
Volunteers are required for the following roles:
- Parade marshals
- Stewards at Gilbertson Park
- Volunteers to help set up and take down the Pride village
Full training will be given, with several sessions available through the week.
Shetland Pride committee member Sarah Cooper said: “The committee are working hard to make sure Shetland Pride 2024 is an incredible day out, but we can’t do that without the support of our volunteers who contribute to the day.
“Without the right number of marshals, the parade can’t go ahead, so we desperately need people to come forward and volunteer.”

Shetland Pride will be held on Saturday, kicking off with a parade starting at the Market Cross at 11am. The route will go along Commercial Street before heading to the Pride village in the Gilbertson Park.
The Pride village will be full of stalls from local vendors and craft makers, with circus performances taking place outside, and sporting activities to keep the crowd entertained. They will be finishing up with a fun colour run around mid-afternoon.
From there two evening parties will be held in Lerwick. The Shetland Pride Youth Party is a new addition for 2024, featuring local bands The Fiction, Fully Licensed and One Man Disco Band – as well as DJ Shamsul – and age-appropriate drag acts at the British Legion.
For over 18s, the Shetland Pride evening party will be held at Sound Hall, with drag queen Lily Minogue returning to the stage to host a night including local bands Zdenka and (the) 3310 as well as drag and circus performances.
