Sport / Dinwoodie through to 200m semis and more medals possible in the pool tonight
SPRINTER Katie Dinwoodie could see more medal success as she’s secured herself a space in the semi-finals of the women’s 200m tonight (Tuesday).
Last night, Dinwoodie bagged Shetland’s third medal of the games in the 100m event.
She said it was an “emotional” race with a tense wait for the results to be confirmed.
“It was exactly the same four years ago in Gibraltar, so I was like ‘ah not again!’
“But I was more happy with the time… finally a PB that’s legal, so it’s amazing, yeah I’m really happy.”
She came first in her 200m heat this morning with a time of 26.01 seconds.
Dinwoodie will be joined by fellow Shetland qualifier Mhia Mouat in the semis at 6pm.
Bobby Laurenson also qualified by coming 3rd in his heat for the same distance, meaning he will be at the men’s semi-finals later today.
If the blues are successful tonight, they could bag a spot for themselves in the finals tomorrow.
At the pool, Shetland has two potential medal winners competing in finals tonight: Rhona Anderson for 100m backstroke and Emmie Hutchison for 50m butterfly.
Anderson came 5th in her prelim this morning and water carrier Hutchison placed 3rd, so there is a real possibility of adding more medals to Shetland’s tally.
