Sport / Team Shetland reveals flag bearer and water carriers for Island Games
THE SHETLAND flag bearer and water carriers for the Island Games in Guernsey have been announced – Carlos Riise and twins Anne and Emmie Hutchison.
Riise will carry the flag at the opening ceremony in St Peter Port on 8 July.
Guernsey will be his 13th games as a cyclist since he first attended the Isle of Wight in 1993.
He has won four individual silver medals and two team bronze medals over the years.
Sisters Anne and Emmie Hutchison will be Shetland’s water carriers at the opening ceremony.
Members of each team will pour water from their island into a fountain, which will run continuously throughout the games.
This year will be the sisters’ fifth games as part of the swimming team.
Their first appearance was in Bermuda in 2013, aged just 14.
Emmie has won bronze twice for 50 metre butterfly and Anne bronze once for 200 metre breaststroke.
The 103-strong Shetland team will compete across ten sports next month in Guernsey.
Bob Kerr, secretary for Shetland Island Games Association, said: “We’re delighted to announce Carlos as our Flag Bearer, and Anne and Emmie as our joint Water Carriers.
“They’re all fantastic ambassadors for their sport and for Shetland, and they deserve to be centre stage at the Opening Ceremony in Guernsey in around three weeks’ time.”
