Emergency services / Coastguard helicopter returns to base after island stay
A COASTGUARD helicopter’s unexpected sojourn on the uninhabited island South Havra has come to an end.
The search and rescue helicopter, which is one of two based at Sumburgh, had a precautionary landing there on Thursday during training due to a technical issue being detected.
The four crew members on board were taken off the island by another aircraft.
After engineering checks the helicopter was able to return back to its Sumburgh base on Sunday.
A spokesman for helicopter operator Bristow was unable to give out details of the exact nature of the problem, but he said it was a routine precautionary landing.
