Entertainment / ‘Spine-tingling’ US singer-songwriter set for Mareel show
AWARD-winning American singer-songwriter Courtney Marie Andrews will round off a UK solo tour with a gig at Mareel later this month.
The 27-year-old singer, who has released acclaimed albums including 2016’s Honest Life and this year’s May Your Kindness Remain, promises to play “lots of new songs, old songs, and in-between songs” along with “lots of strange stories about van breakdowns and Super 8 motels in the middle of nowhere”.
In January she won international artist of the year at the UK Americana Awards, while she was also up for the emerging artist of the year prize at Nashville’s prestigious Americana Music Honours and Awards.
Andrews will perform at Mareel, with support from local singer-songwriter Adam Guest, on Wednesday 12 December.
Tickets priced £18 – £15 for concessions – are on sale now via the Shetland Arts box office.
Local promoters Ragged Wood said they were thrilled to be able to attract an artist of Andrews’ ilk to Shetland in what had been a breakthrough year for the singer.
“She is one of the most exciting new voices to have emerged on the thriving Americana scene in the past couple of years,” said Neil Riddell of Ragged Wood.
“She has such a distinctive vocal style and writes spine-tinglingly great songs.”
