News / Relay returns to Clickimin
THE LOCAL Relay For Life fundraiser is set to return to the Clickimin running track in Lerwick.
The biennial Cancer Research UK event, which is being held next year on 26 May, was last held at the town’s Gilbertson Park due to the construction of the new Anderson High School, which is now finished.
The fundraiser – which revolves around a 12-hour walk – will also feature live music, the Candle of Hope ceremony and an afternoon gala.
To launch the 2018 Relay For Life, a concert will take place at the Garrison Theatre in Lerwick on 23 November.
On the bill will be music acts Kansa, the North Ness Boys, Steven Robertson and Elsbeth Clark, while comedian Marjolein Robertson will also appear.
The total amount of money raised in Shetland for CRUK since the relay began in 2006 stands at over £1,138,000.
Chairman of the local Relay For Life committee Martin Henderson said: “This concert should be a great, fun-filled and lively way to launch the upcoming campaign. We hope this will encourage team-leaders to start forming and entering their teams for the relay as soon as possible, with a view to commencing wider fund-raising activities too.
“All being well we hope to maintain the incredible levels of contribution from Shetland we’ve experienced during earlier relay events and, who knows, perhaps even improve on that if that’s possible.”
Tickets for the launch concert are now on sale through the Shetland Arts Box Office either online, direct from Mareel or by phoning 01595 745000.
