News / Relay for Life moves to Gilbertson Park
NEXT YEAR’s Relay for Life will take place on the weekend of 28 & 29 May at Lerwick’s Gilbertson Park, organisers of the hugely successful fundraising event have announced.
Over recent years, the bi-annual overnight event has raised record-breaking sums for Cancer Research UK, a charity close to many local people’s hearts.
Traditionally held at the Clickimin running track, the relay had to be moved to a different venue due to the construction of the new Anderson High School.
This change aside, the Relay For Life will follow very much the same format as in previous years, with teams of people walking together in relay overnight from 8pm until 8am the following morning.
Team members are encouraged to register early for the event, and start their fundraising as soon as possible. For more information relating to teams please email shetlandteams@yahoo.co.uk
The organising committee plan to kick-off fundraising for the event with a variety be held in the Garrison Theatre on 30 October. Confirmed acts so far are Hjaltabonhoga, Julie Thomson & Cheryl Jamieson, Hom Bru, Da Whalsay Weemen and Freda Leask.
Tickets are priced at £10 each and will be on sale from the Shetland Box Office from 28 September 2015.
A new Facebook page has also been set up for CRUK Relay For Life – Shetland.
