Mental Health

Mental health encompasses everything related to our emotional, social, and psychological health. Over the last few decades, we've only just started to understand how critical good mental health is to our everyday life, affecting how we manage stress, make decisions, and interact with the world around us. Maintaining good mental health is critical no matter your age or situation.

If you struggle with a mental health condition, know that you're not alone. About 1 in 3 American adults will experience an anxiety disorder in their lifetime, according to the National Institute of Mental Health; NIMH also estimates that over 8 percent of US adults have experienced depression. Other mental health conditions include attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), suicidal thoughts, and eating disorders. It's also possible (and common) to experience more than one mental health condition simultaneously.

It's important to learn to recognize mental health warning signs in yourself and your loved ones, because taking action in those situations could be life-saving. Talking to loved ones and mental health professionals, taking care of your physical health, getting enough sleep, and using effective coping mechanisms can help you maintain good mental health.
