25 Celebrities Who Completely Embrace Being Single

Mindy Kaling

During her chat with Meghan Markle on her podcast Archetypes, Mindy Kaling opened up about being single and how people tend to pity her. News flash: Kaling is super happy with her life, and doesn’t need a man to feel fulfilled. 

“They want to set me up with some loser they know,” she told the Duchess of Sussex. “And I’m like, ‘I’m okay. I’m a rich, successful woman with great clothes and a nice family.’” Honestly, what more could a gal want?

Most recently, Kaling announced the birth of her third baby, Anne. She is also mom to Katherine “Kit,” 6, and Spencer, 3.

Susan Sarandon

Susan Sarandon opened up in 2012 about being single following her 2009 split with her ex, Tim Robbins.

“It’s been a lot of different things,” Sarandon told Reuters about single life. “It’s traumatic and exhilarating. The one thing that’s been really clear to me is that you have to think of your own life and your relationship and everything as a living organism. It’s constantly moving, changing, growing. I think long-term relationships need to be constantly reevaluated and talked about.”

Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen was totally unapologetic at The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023 when asked about her relationship status. 

“I like where I am. I’m single,” the Modern Family alum said. “You know, like working … who has the time?”

Jenna Ortega

Jenna Ortega made it clear back in 2023 that her priority is life right now is decidedly not dating. 

“Maybe I am too obsessed with my work, but the idea of relationships stresses me out,” she told Elle. “And also being that vulnerable with someone and having to get to know someone that well and having someone see you for all that you are… My brain knows that I don’t need to think about that right now.”

Amber Rose

Amber Rose once opened up about being single not because she wanted to be single, but because she decidedly did not enjoy jumping back into the dating pool. 

“It’s worse than ever,” she said in a 2023 appearance on the Sofia with an F podcast, per Us Weekly. “[Men are] pretty disgusting out here. They’re f— gross. Like, I wanna be single for the rest of my life. I don’t want to share my house or my life with anyone. I don’t want anyone around my kids. I don’t want to have sex. It’s so gross. I don’t want it.” Fair enough!

Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks inspired so many back in 2019 when she opened up about being perfectly happy by herself. 

“Most women would not be happy being me. People say, ‘But you’re alone.’ But I don’t feel alone. I feel very un-alone. I feel very sparkly and excited about everything,” the legendary singer told Vulture. “I know women who are going, like, ‘I don’t want to grow old alone.’ And I’m like, ‘See, that doesn’t scare me.’ Because I’ll never be alone. Most of all, Nicks felt passionate about advocating for women, who just like her, aren’t defined by a man. 

“My generation fought very hard for feminism, and we fought very hard to not be labeled as you had to have a husband or you had to be in a relationship or you were somehow not a cool chick. And now I’m seeing that start to come around again, where people say to you, ‘Well, what do you mean, you don’t have a boyfriend? You don’t want to have one? You don’t want to be married?’ And you’re like, ‘Well, no, I don’t, actually. I’m fine,'” she said. “And they find a lot of reasons why you’re not fine. But it just seems to be coming back.”

“Being able to take care of myself is something that my mom really instilled in me,” the singer added. “I can remember her always saying, ‘If nothing else, I will teach you to be independent.'”

Lucy Hale

Lucy Hale shared in 2020 just how her attitude about being single changed over the years. 

“When I was younger, I was constantly wanting to be with or date someone because I was so deathly afraid of being single or by myself,” Lucy told Cosmopolitan. “Now, I’m at the point where if I meet someone, they better really elevate my life, because I love being single.”

Legendary supermodel Linda Evangelista recently got candid about her dating life, or better yet, the lack thereof. Talking to The Sunday Times, Evangelista revealed she is “not interested” in finding romance again, People reports. “I don’t want to sleep with anybody anymore,” she continued. “I don’t want to hear somebody breathing.” Good for you, Linda!

Tiffany Haddish

Tiffany Haddish, who split with rapper Common in 2021, talked to People about being totally fine with not having a plus one right now. “I’m dating me,” the comedian said, “but also there is a variety of men that I like to hang out with.” She continued, “I’m on the red carpet by myself. I’m enjoying my options, but I’m not bringing none of them to no carpets. They haven’t earned that privilege.”

Emilia Clarke

Talking to AARP recently, Keaton added that dating is also out of the picture.“I don’t date,” she told the outlet. “Highly unlikely. I don’t remember anyone calling me, going, ‘This is So-and-So. I’d like to take you out.’ They don’t happen. Of course not.”

Drew Barrymore has always been so candid about her personal life. After separating from Will Kopelman in 2016, Barrymore stayed single for roughly six years, focusing on her work, herself, and her two daughters. 

“I am just in a completely different place in my life and maybe in the near future I will get into a relationship… but it simply hasn’t been my priority,” Barrymore wrote in an October 2022 blog post. She continued, “You have to be able to be alone too before you can be with somebody else, so I feel like I’m just kind of growing up right now. It’s taken a long time.” Anderson’s most recent marriage, to bodyguard Dan Hayhurst, lasted a year before their January 2022 split. She also has two kids, 26-year-old Brandon and 25-year-old Dylan.

Shonda Rhimes, the creative force behind shows like Grey’s Anatomy, Bridgerton, and How To Get Away With Murder knows exactly what she wants.”I was seriously dating somebody and I was like, I don’t want to do this,” she told Entertainment Weekly in 2015.
