The Devil Wears Prada‘s Sequel Already Has a Plot – & Fans Will Be at the Edge of Their Seats

While some of us might still know full lines of dialogue from The Devil Wears Prada – including “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” – it might be hard to believe that the movie’s been out for a whopping 18 years. After all, the Meryl Streep-starred movie quickly went from being a box office hit to a true Hollywood classic.

And, just like many successful movies out there, the question about making a sequel has been hovering ever since the first one came out. Prior to this week, the answer’s always been a no, but Variety confirmed that a long-awaited sequel is finally in the works!

According to the outlet, the original film’s screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is in talks to write a new chapter for Streep’s iconic character Miranda Priestly and her then-assistants Andrea Sachs (Anne Hathaway) and Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt).

But before Streep, Blunt, and Hathaway are confirmed to return to their roles, a plot has reportedly already been established. Per Variety, the second movie will follow “Priestly as she navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing and faces off against Blunt’s character, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.”

Knowing how iconic Blunt and Streep’s characters were, and how intense another showdown between them would be, we can’t wait to see this story on the big screen!

On social media, fans are already raving over this potential sequel. “OMFG !!!!!!!!!!!! Emily is BACKKKKKKKKKK ! ❤️💯” wrote one user on X. “The one thing that would make this perfect is an Anne Hathaway cameo,” wrote another.

As a reminder, Hathaway’s character ended the movie by leaving her job with Priestley and working for a newspaper following Priestley’s glowing recommendation.

So while Hathaway’s character might not fit into the sequel’s storyline, seeing Hathaway as Andy again would make our dreams come true.

“I don’t know if any of us knew it was going to become what it did,” Hathaway once told Blunt of the move in Variety’s “Actors on Actors” series. “It’s quoted to me every week. It will be the movie that changed my life.”

“We just had a joy bomb of a time on that movie,” Blunt added.

Looks like a sequel would be a dream come true for them too!
