Tom Cruise’s Reported Rivalry With Brad Pitt Is Revived Amid His British Grand Prix Absence

Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt have retained their A-list status for decades and their movies continue to draw audiences to theaters, but they aren’t necessarily on the best terms. After starring in the 1994 film, Interview With the Vampire, the actors seemed to have very different approaches to their on-set demeanor — and it might have ignited a 30-year feud.

It was Pitt who revealed that he was “bugged” by Cruise’s always positive personality to the now-defunct Premiere magazine in the 1990s. “There came a point during filming when I started really resenting him. He’s North Pole, I’m South. He’s always coming at you with a handshake, whereas I may bump into you,” he explained, via Far Out Magazine. “There was this underlying competition that got in the way of any real conversation. It wasn’t nasty by any means, not at all. But it was just there, and it bugged me a bit.” Pitt went on to praise Cruise for being “a good actor,” but the damage was done.

The men haven’t starred in a film together since, and the whispers about the Hollywood rivalry are starting up again because of Pitt’s film, F1. The 60-year-old Oscar winner might be treading a little too close to Cruise’s territory since he’s been a racing fan for years — remember Days of Thunder — and Pitt nabbed his Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski for the project. Perhaps Cruise feels like Pitt is encroaching on a corner of the film market that he’s owned for years — action sports, stunts, and the need for speed?

As Lainey Gossip pointed out, Cruise was noticeably absent from the British Grand Prix on Sunday, July 7, an event he never misses. His F1 buddy, Lewis Hamilton, even won the event. But Pitt was there with some of the cast and crew to film some crucial atmosphere scenes, and Cruise was nowhere to be found even though he lives in London. The 62-year-old Mission Impossible star turned up the following evening at the European premiere of Twisters to support his protégé, Glen Powell — and it even was worthy enough for an Instagram post.

So, is this all much ado about nothing, or have the two actors steered clear of each other on purpose for three decades? Fans are keeping tabs on Cruise and Pitt to see if they will cross paths anytime soon, but for right now — it’s not happening.
