Marjorie Van Horn OBITUARY

My mother passed away on June 18. She was 101 years old. Marjorie was born and raised in Santa Paula, CA. She was active in music, ballet, and Jobs Daughters, rising to become Honored Queen. Playing piano and alto sax, she was also her high-school drum majorette. In 1943 she married Roderick H. Van Horn, also of Santa Paula. They were married 75 and a half years when Mr. Van Horn passed in 2018. Mom was an active volunteer in her community offering her time to the Symphony Association, Civic Light Opera, Panhellenic, Red Cross, and others. In later years she received her Registered Nursing degree, eventually becoming a hospital nursing administrator. Marjorie was a pianist and pipe organist and shared her passion and love of music and the arts with her family. My mother had grace, manners, creativity, and intelligence. She loved her home and family with an unwavering devotion. She had two children; a son Roderick Jr. (deceased), and a daughter, Lynnette.May bands of angels sing thee to thy rest.Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies;Heav’n’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. There will be no service.
