Cecil Elbert “Cec” Hope OBITUARY

Cecil Elbert (Cec) Hope was born in Pomona, CA to Frank and Delphene Hope on July 14, 1932 and had one brother, Del Hope. Cecil grew up in Pomona and graduated from Pomona High School in 1950, and proudly served in the Navy from 1951 through 1955 during the Korean War. While serving his country, he married his hometown sweetheart Joan Myers in 1953. Cecil and Joan had two children, Teri and Greg, and they lived in Pomona until 1979. Cecil and Joan moved to Upland during their retirement years and enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, visiting friends and family, and most importantly spending time with their grandchildren which involved vacations, fishing, golfing, sleepovers, and various outings. His wife, Joan passed away in August 2022. She lovingly referred to him as Cec.In his youth, Cecil rode his bike to a variety of part-time jobs while going to school. He was always a dependable and hard worker. Cecil began his adult career at Convair in San Diego and moved to General Dynamics Pomona Division where he continued working while completing his AA degree at Mt. San Antonio College. His career spanned 33 years and culminated in his retirement as Program Manager at the age of 55. Subsequently, he worked at the L.A. County Fair for many years, and volunteered at the MCC Thrift Store in Rancho Cucamonga. He also enjoyed working on projects around the house and had a natural talent for woodworking. Cecil enjoyed sports, and frequently listened to the Dodgers, Rams, and Lakers on the transistor radio while tinkering in the garage or working on his ’55 VW Bug. He will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, devotion to family and many other wonderful qualities.Cecil is survived by his children Teri (husband Mike), Greg (wife Karen); grandchildren Aaron (wife Megan), Austin, Shawnel, Justin, and Karen’s son Michael; and, great grandchildren, Makenna, Fischer, and Efa.A graveside service will be held on Friday, July 5 at 1:00 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery with a reception following.
