Inland Empire parks have become movie theaters this summer.

Cities across the region are screening family films in parks, at events complete with activities and food.

Here are highlights of area summer movie programs, many of which run through the end of August.

Riverside County

CORONA

The city is hosting free movies in the park through Friday, Aug. 9. The locations will rotate by day of the week. Films will start at 8:15 p.m.

  • Mondays: Promenade Park, 615 Richey St.
  • Tuesdays: Ridgeline Park, 2850 Ridgeline Drive
  • Wednesdays: Stagecoach Park, 2125 Stagecoach Road
  • Fridays: Spyglass Park, 1790 Spyglass Drive

Guests should bring snacks, chairs and blankets.

  • July 8-10, 12: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”
  • July 15-17, 19: “Elemental” 
  • July 22-24, 26: “Wish”

EASTVALE

The city’s 2024 Sunset Cinema Drive-In Movie Theater Series continues into early October.

Double features are scheduled for the first Saturday of each month at Riverview Recreation Park, 14600 Baron Drive. The cost is $20 per car. Movies begin at 6 p.m.

  • Saturday, Aug. 3: “Back to the Future” and “Grease”
  • Saturday, Sept. 7: “Coco” and “La Bamba”
  • Saturday, Oct. 5: “Hotel Transylvania” and “The Sixth Sense”

JURUPA VALLEY

“Back to the Future” will be screened Tuesday, July 30, at Shadow Rock Park.

Admission to the 7 p.m. movie will be free. Food will be on sale.

Parking is free, but limited. The event is sponsored by the Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District.

The park is at 6598 20th St., Jurupa Valley.

LAKE ELSINORE

Summerlake Park, 900 West Broadway, will host a free movie in the park. Family activities will take place before the movie at 7:30 p.m. Guests should bring chairs and blankets.

MENIFEE

The Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District is screening free movies in the park in Menifee.

The monthly screenings are at two sites in the city. The events will include jumpers and free popcorn.

MENIFEE

City residents get a say in what movie will play Friday, July 19, at Underwood Park.

It will be the city’s second Movie in the Park + Go Skate Day. The event starts at 7 p.m., but the movie will screen at dusk. Activities and food vendors also will be at the park, 28251 Rouse Road. The movie choices are “Wish,” “Wonka,” or “Trolls Band Together.”

MORENO VALLEY

The MoVal Movies summer film series is underway.

Movies will be screened at 7 p.m. at the city’s new Civic Center Amphitheater. Guests should bring chairs, blankets and snacks. Admission is free, but food will be on sale.

  • Friday, July 19: “The Wizard of Oz”
  • Friday, July  26: “Up”
  • Friday, Aug. 2: “Guardians of the Galaxy”

The venue, at 14075 Frederick St., is behind the city’s Conference and Recreation Center.

NORCO

Pikes Peak Park will host a family movie Friday, July 19.

“Trolls Band Together” will start at 8 p.m. Parking and admission are free. Guests should bring chairs and blankets. The park is at 97 Sixth St.

PERRIS

The city’s Movies in the Park program is underway on some Friday nights into September.

Guests should bring chairs and blankets. Movies will begin at dusk.

  • Friday, July 12: “Elemental,” May Ranch Park, 3033 Poppy Court
  • Friday, July 26: “Blue Beetle,” Rotary Park, 1491 A St.
  • Friday, Aug. 9: “Trolls,” Paragon Park, 264 Spectacular Bid St.
  • Friday, Aug. 23: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” Goetz Park, 3020 Goetz Road
  • Friday, Sept. 6: “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” Enchanted Hills Park, 1400 Weston Road. The event also includes the End of Summer Splash at 5 p.m. that will feature a splash pad, kids activities and food vendors.

RIVERSIDE

The city’s Movies in the Park series continues until Friday, Aug. 9.

Guests should bring chairs or blankets for the screenings, which start at dusk.

COLTON

Prado Park will host the last installment of the city’s Movies in the Park series  Saturday, Aug. 3.

Activities will start at 7 p.m., with the movie, “Kung Fu Panda 4,” following at 8:15 p.m. Guests should bring chairs and blankets. The park is at 3000 Prado Lane.

CHINO

Chino City Hall will host the city’s free summer movies series.

On Friday nights, the Chino Summer Nights events will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn and will include food vendors and informational booths. Guests should bring lawn chairs and blankets. City Hall is at 13220 Central Ave.

CHINO HILLS

Free movies and summer activities are planned Thursday nights outside the Chino Hills Community Center.

Activities will begin at 6:30 p.m., with movies at 8 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be sold for cash only. Seating is first come, first served, but blankets and chairs are allowed. The center is at 14250 Peyton Drive.

FONTANA

Dive-in movies are returning to the city this year.

The films will be shown at 7 p.m. Fridays at Heritage Pool, 7350 W. Liberty Parkway, and Saturdays at Don Day Pool, 14501 Live Oak Ave. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children and those older than 55.

MONTCLAIR

The city is hosting a free summer movie night Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Alma Hofman Park.

There will be family-friendly activities. The movie, “Top Gun: Maverick,” will start at 7:45 p.m. Guests should bring chairs. Food trucks will be at the park, which is at 5201 Benito St.

Free movies can be seen Friday nights this summer, starting at 7 p.m.

The film series will be at Ontario Town Square, 224 N. Euclid Ave. Guests should bring chairs and blankets.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA 

The city is hosting summer movies at two locations this summer.

On Tuesdays, films will be screened at Victoria Gardens Chaffey Town Square, 12505 N. Mainstreet. On Fridays, the site will be Red Hill Community Park, 7484 Vineyard Ave. Games and activities will kick off the evenings, with the movies beginning at dusk.

REDLANDS

Free family movies will be screened at two Redlands parks in September.

Activities and themed entertainment will kick off the events at 5:30 p.m. Films will start at dusk. The events will include food vendors. Guests should bring blankets and chairs.

City parks will host Starlight Cinema Movies in the Park.

The free showings offer a craft tied to the film, outdoor games, a raffle and trivia and food vendors. Activities start at 6 p.m. Movies will begin at dusk.

  • Friday, July 12: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” Blair Park, 1466 W. Marshall Blvd.

UPLAND

Moonlight Movies at Magnolia Park continue with special days focused on canine companions and children.

The free movies will start at 8:30 p.m. Guests should bring blankets and chairs. A food truck will be at the park, which is at 651 W. 15th St.

  • Thursday, July 18: Dog Days of Summer Movie Night. The “Secret Life of Pets” is the movie. The event will include an ice cream social for pets and owners from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Thursday, Aug. 1: Kids Night at the Park. The movie will be “Kung Fu Panda 4” and the event includes a kids’ swap meet and crafts from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

YUCAIPA

The amphitheater at Yucaipa Community Park is hosting the city’s free summer movies series from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each Wednesday.

The park is at 34900 Oak Glen Road.

City parks will host free summer movie nights on Thursdays.

Activities for children will begin at 7:30 p.m., with films starting at dusk. Guests should bring chairs and blankets, along with food and refreshments.

  • Thursday, July 18: “The Wizard of Oz,” June Vail Park, Grand Avenue and Bluefield Drive
