UPDATED:

It was heating up early Thursday, July 4, at Sylvan Park in Redlands — and not because the forecast called for near-triple digit temperatures.

The traditional daylong celebration of U.S. independence began with a Fourth of July parade around Sylvan Park, followed by food, live music and more entertainment at the park.

The 57th Independence Day celebration was expected to continue Thursday evening at Moore Middle School, where skydivers were scheduled to kick off the nighttime festivities including a concert by the Redlands 4th of July Band and a fireworks finale.
