A 41-year-old man from Moreno Valley was arrested Monday, July 3, on suspicion of assaulting a woman with the intent to commit rape, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said.

Marques Deshone Rogers is accused of driving a woman to an area behind a business near Alessandro and Perris boulevards in Moreno Valley early Sunday morning, putting a knife to her neck, and demanding sex, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release. She managed to escape his vehicle without injuries and contacted authorities, it added.

Rogers had met the woman through an online dating service, the release said. It was not immediately clear what the dating service was.

The Sheriff’s Department described Rogers’ criminal history as “extensive” and “violent.” Further details were not immediately available.

As of Wednesday evening, Rogers remained in Robert Presley Detention Center in lieu of $1 million bail, according to jail records. He was also booked on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon that was not a firearm, the jail records said.

Authorities urged anyone with information to contact Elizabeth Buck, an investigator at Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station, at 951-486-6700.
