Environmental Health is the part of public health that provides communities with healthier environments and reduces human exposure to environmental contaminants in food, water, air and soil through policies and regulatory programs.

State Resources
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) also supports our local communities with the following programs:
The Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability supports food safety, childcare and school health and sanitation programs, waste reduction, resource reuse and conservation, prevention of pollution, and advances the principles of sustainable development and commerce.
Air Pollution Control Division protects air quality by enforcing state air pollution laws, monitoring the local attainment of PM10 particulate levels, notification of wildfire smoke events, open burn permits, greenhouse gas emissions and indoor air pollution such as radon, mold, tobacco, solid fuel heaters, CFCs, lead and asbestos.
Water Quality Division monitors and reports on the quality of state waters to prevent water pollution, protect, restore and enhance the quality of surface and groundwater while ensuring that all drinking water systems provide safe drinking water. WQD inspects drinking water systems, issues permits, ensures compliance, and takes action against entities who violate state and federal regulations. Develop partnership with utilities, counties, and other agencies to oversee, improve, and maintain quality drinking, surface, and groundwater.
Hazardous Materials Division supports and ensures proper management of hazardous and non-hazardous solid wastes, environmental clean-up of contaminated areas, and management of radioactive materials and equipment.
