Police identify man killed in Oceanside apartment shooting

The 26-year-old victim, Alex Hamilton, was visiting residents at the complex on College Boulevard when he was shot through a window

UPDATED:

A man who was fatally shot in an Oceanside apartment early Tuesday has been identified as 26-year-old Alex Hamilton.

Hamilton was visiting residents when someone fired through a bedroom window of an apartment around 1:10 a.m. at the complex on College Boulevard off Aztec Street, just north of Oceanside Boulevard. He was hit in the head and later died at a hospital.

Police do not have any suspect information to release but are working from several leads, said police Lt. Bill Weese. He declined to say what led up to the shooting.

“I can confirm he was there visiting the residents of that apartment,” Weese said. He said Hamilton was awake in the bedroom when he was shot.

Someone fired from the sidewalk outside and the bullet pierced the window, police spokesperson Tom Bussey said Tuesday. Others inside the apartment took shelter in a bathroom, he said.

No other details were immediately available.
