Police investigating fatal stabbing in Oak Park with ‘unusual circumstances’

UPDATED:

San Diego detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of a 50-year-old man who got into an argument with a woman inside a vehicle early Monday, a police official said.

The victim was found on a sidewalk on Euclid Avenue near Laurel Street in Oak Park around 12:25 a.m. with at least one stab wound to his upper body, said homicide Lt. Steve Shebloski. When officers arrived, they found the victim and a woman who appeared to be helping the injured man. The witness who called 911 was also at the scene.

Police and paramedics began providing first aid to the injured man, and he was taken to a hospital. He died a short time later.

Because of the “unusual circumstances surrounding the death,” homicide detectives were called to investigate the death, Shebloski said.

The lieutenant said little is known about the circumstances leading up to the incident. Police know there was some type of argument between the victim and the woman that occurred in a vehicle. And during the argument “a knife was present and the male suffered a fatal stab wound,” Shebloski said in a statement.

However, police said it was still unclear what led up to the man being stabbed.

Detectives are examining physical evidence and working to locate and interview witnesses. They also are looking for surveillance footage of the incident.

The name of the man who died has not been released.

Anyone with information about the stabbing is asked to call the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
