Wrong-way motorist killed in suspected DUI crash in Spring Valley

The 20-year-old woman was driving south in the northbound lanes about 3 a.m. Sunday when her Honda went down an embankment and crashed onto the road below state Route 125.

UPDATED:

SPRING VALLEY  — A 20-year-old woman suspected of driving drunk died early Sunday after she went the wrong way on state Route 125 in Spring Valley, hit a bridge rail and crashed onto the road below, officials said.

California Highway Patrol Officer Jared Grieshaber said the driver was in a silver Honda Civic heading south in the highway’s northbound lanes about 3 a.m. Sunday when it “traveled down an embankment and came to rest on its wheels.”

Responding emergency personnel pronounced the driver dead at the scene of the crash, and investigators found no evidence that another vehicle was involved in the incident. No one else was found in the vehicle.

Alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash, Grieshaber said.

The woman’s name was not released.
