Keep a coat handy on Thursday. Thanksgiving Day will be crisp, cool and maybe a little bit wet

Onshore winds will prevent daytime high temperatures from reaching average across much of San Diego County, and showers might roll ashore

Planning to use a fireplace on Thursday? Have plenty of logs ready. Shifting winds are going to produce a crisp, cool Thanksgiving Day across San Diego County, and the rest of the week will be even chillier, the National Weather Service said.

The region will transition from warm, dry Santa Ana winds to a raw onshore flow that will bring the marine layer back early Thursday, preventing San Diego’s daytime high from rising above 69. It’ll be 66 on Friday, 67 on Saturday and 68 on Sunday. The seasonal high is 70.

The change will be driven by a coastal eddy that could produce scattered showers late Thursday night as well as early Friday, when the holiday shopping season kicks into gear.

The winds will help form a 3-foot swell in La Jolla Cove, which will make diving and snorkeling more challenging. And sea surface temperatures will drop to as low as 61 degrees in spots, making a wetsuit a necessity after several warm days in a row.

The waves won’t crest above 3 feet until Sunday when a swell will roll in, producing 4-to-6-foot surf, with occasional 6-foot breakers, at places like Blacks Beach and Windansea. Stronger rip currents are expected.

Southern California ski resorts are beginning to awaken. Snow Summit and Bear Mountain will be open on Saturday and Sunday. Check your local listings.
