SAN DIEGO — A Vista man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of robbing two people at the same ATM in the past two days, a sheriff’s official said.

In each instance, the thief ran up to the Bank of America ATM and demanded money from the customer at gunpoint, sheriff’s Det. Michael Gonzales said. A man was robbed about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday and a woman about 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Hours before the second robbery, officials released images of the suspect from surveillance footage captured Tuesday at the ATM on East Bobier Drive.

After the photos were made public, several tipsters called Crime Stoppers with information that led detectives to the 26-year-old suspect, Gonzales said.

During the investigation, detectives compared surveillance video from both robberies and determined the thief was the same man.

The suspect was arrested about 1:30 p.m. at his Bobier Drive home near the ATM where the robberies occurred. He was booked into jail on two robbery charges and on an outstanding warrant for driving under the influence of drugs.
