UPDATED:

An interfaith vigil for the U.S. Presidential Inauguration is set for Jan. 20 at the Escondido City Hall in the Mitchell Room. The event was originally slated to be held outdoors, but was moved inside in case of rain.

The nonpartisan event, called “Inauguration Vigil: Hopes for our Future Together,” is organized by Escondido Together, also known as the Escondido Clergy Association, an ecumenical group providing ministries and services to the community.

The communitywide vigil is intended to be a witness to the diversity of the country.

“Our intent is to lift up the voices of all in our community in a statement of hope and remembrance, calling on all Americans to work together to shape a society that works for and includes all,” said the Rev. Meg Decker of Trinity Episcopal Church in Escondido and one of the event organizers.

Prayers and music will be offered by a variety of faith communities, including Christian, Muslim and Baha’i representatives in a diversity of languages and backgrounds, celebrating the diversity of the country and acknowledging a common identity as Americans.

Participants are invited to bring flags and a hopeful spirit, Decker said.

The vigil is slated to start at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 201 N. Broadway.
