Samsung has released a new software update to its last Galaxy Note series phones. The Galaxy Note 20 series has started getting the April 2024 security update in the US. It makes these almost four-year-old S Pen-toting phones more secure and reliable.

Unlocked Galaxy Note 20 gets April 2024 security update in the USA

The April 2024 security update is now available for the factory-unlocked Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Ultra units in the US. The update has a relatively smaller update size and is based on firmware version N98xU1UES6HXD1. According to Samsung's documentation, the April 2024 security patch fixes a few dozen security vulnerabilities discovered in previous software versions.

You can check for the new update now if you have an unlocked Galaxy Note 20 unit in the US. To do that, open the Settings app and navigate to Software update » Download and install. You can also download the new firmware file from our database and flash it manually using a Windows PC and the Odin tool.

The update doesn't bring any new features to the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. These phones didn't even get the Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update. If you want to use newer versions of One UI, you should definitely consider upgrading to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. You can watch our review of the Galaxy S24 Ultra in the video below.

While the Galaxy Note 20 is limited to Android 13, the Galaxy S24 Ultra will get updated all the way up to Android 21 in the year 2031.
