Chrome for Android has an option called ‘Listen to this page,’ which can read content on a webpage aloud, which is very helpful if you don’t want to go through the hassle of reading it and just listen to the content like a podcast.Summarize in one-click with Galaxy AI

Listening to content instead of reading it also frees you up to carry out other tasks on your smartphone. Unfortunately, you can’t do that because the ‘Listen to this page’ feature stops working when you minimize Chrome or start using another app. Well, Google seems to have started fixing that limitation of the app.

Chrome could soon read-aloud webpages even when you minimize it

MSPowerUser has spotted a flag in Chrome for Android called ‘Read Aloud Background Playback.’ The description of this flag says “Add support for background playback for Read Aloud.” It suggests that Google is working on making the ‘Listen to this page’ feature keep working in the background. That should allow the app to keep reading the content even when you minimize Chrome or use another app.

The latest development doesn’t come as a surprise as Chrome for Windows’ Read Aloud feature keeps working even in the background, allowing you to listen to the content even when you minimize the web browser or use another app. The upcoming feature in Chrome for Android will come in handy quite a lot for many people.

The story continues after the video…

At the moment, there’s no information about when Google will offer background playback for read-aloud in the stable version of Chrome for Android. However, going by the app’s feature rollout history, it should arrive in the next couple of months.
