What to Know

Critics Consensus

With jokes that fall flat and a story that borrows liberally from star Arnold Schwarzenegger's earlier career triumphs, FUBAR is just OK.

Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) It’s a mild comedy and a tepid adrenalin shot. Leaning into satire might have saved it. Rated: 3/5 Jun 1, 2023 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News . All the characters are engaging enough, and the cast... likable enough, although some of the performances are erratic and almost too casual. Rated: 2/4 May 31, 2023 Full Review Martin Robinson London Evening Standard It’s fairly standard fare which is a perfectly acceptable vehicle for Arnie coming back, but which also feels a little bit like a wasted opportunity. Rated: 3/5 May 30, 2023 Full Review Aditya Mani Jha Firstpost ...competently mounted pieces of media, one cannot help but see these enterprises as focus-grouped and audience-tested to oblivion, basically... Dec 20, 2023 Full Review Mini Anthikad-Chhibber The Hindu The spy-action-comedy is stuffed with family drama, dorky romance, an unhinged baddie, a ticking nuclear bomb and jokes that work sporadically Aug 27, 2023 Full Review Mark Meszoros The News-Herald (Willoughby, OH) Like so many streaming series, FUBAR simply doesn’t have enough story to justify its overall runtime, a real problem considering we’re talking about all of eight hours in this case. Rob A Overall it’s enjoyable and keeps you interested in what’s coming next. Looking forward to the 2nd season, nice bingeable serie if you want something easy. That’s it and that’s all!😉 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/03/24 Full Review Laze T NGL I already forgot what happened in the show Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Tim N Lots of cheesy dialogue, cheesy action scenes and plot holes. It's mildly entertaining if only for Schwarzenegger and Monica Barbaro. Most of the rest of the cast is at least sort of likeable, with the exception of 'Roo' who is over the top obnoxious and abrasive. Whatever it had going for it was demolished in the final episode that was a) ridiculous and b) an obvious setup for second season. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/09/24 Full Review Bethany C Some funny moments but couldn't get through the corniest of them and quit watching a few episodes in. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/25/24 Full Review BallisticzsGaming R FUBAR is an action comedy series that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a CIA operative who is about to retire until he is forced to do one more mission where he finds out that his daughter Emma, played by Monica Barbaro, is also a recruited CIA operative. The show is created by Nick Santora, known for Reacher, Dog Gone, and other projects. So when I first saw this show from the trailer, I thought it would be cheesy and corny when honestly it's the complete opposite. Not only is the action entertaining and thrilling, but the comedic timing and funny lines in this movie actually made me laugh a good bit, a lot more than I thought I would. The cast in this movie I feel has a great dynamic that is hard to capture but this cast has the charm and is entertaining, especially with the father and daughter dynamic between Schwarzenegger and Barbaro's characters, there is intense drama between the two which can make for some great drama but also is used very well in the comedy. Then we have the CIA team of Barry, Ruth, and Alden which they all have their fair share of screen time and you just fall in love with this team like they're a family, if you watch shows like Criminal Minds, Agents of Shield, then you know what kind of teams I'm talking about. Then you have the antagonist, Boro, who is played by Gabriel Luna and he was just amazing in his role, and this show does well at fleshing out these characters and making you even see and understand why the antagonist is on such a mission of vengeance against Luke. I was honestly just surprised with how developed the story and the characters in this show were and it felt like they were able to tell a story worth investing into and one that had drama, emotion, action, comedy, and entertainment. FUBAR gets a high B+ and I can't wait for Season 2 of this show. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/24 Full Review Jeremy S Fast paced, funny and really what you would expect from a Schwarzenegger tv show. Humor can be sophomoric, there is some cringe and the characters are a little cliche. But it is what it is. And it is very good for what it is. Looking forward to season 2.
