John Anderson Wall Street Journal Ms. Rudolph and Mr. Samberg, who admit that their close bond is rooted in "the one half of one season where we overlapped" on Saturday Night Live, have virtually no chemistry and no material. They also have a show with no focus. Dec 2, 2021 Full Review Joel Keller Decider Rudolph and Samberg are on their A-game here, but the opinionated grannies are the show's secret weapon. Dec 9, 2021 Full Review Ashley Moulton Common Sense Media For foodie kids and parents, this reality competition show is a sweet and funny treat. Rated: 4/5 Dec 8, 2021 Full Review Nicole Gallucci Mashable The unique panel of judges helps keep the competition fresh, but the show's perfectly-paired hosts, Maya Rudolph and Andy Samberg, are the real icing on the cake. Gina Marie W This show shouldn't be allowed to have the word Baking in the title. It has the least amount of baking I've ever seen. 85% of it is Maya and Andy telling lame jokes to the camera or interviewing the "bakers" about anything other than baking. There is a segment where the judges aka grannies sit around and talk about life (not baking). At one point they give the "bakers" letters from home like they are on freakin' Survivor. Maya annd Andy do musical numbers. Anything they can do to avoid actual baking! What a letdown. It's a beautiful set. It could have been so good. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/17/24 Full Review This show would have been so much better if you could have left the 2 hostesses out of it. The comedy and theatrics are annoying. I love cooking shows and the grannies are great, but it seems it's more the Maya and Amy show. I will pass if it gets another season. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/13/23 Full Review Christina B Whomever wrote that theme song deserves to be fired Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Andy Samberg and Maya Rudolph are the best hosts I have ever watched! The show is entertaining, but the way these two play off each other, and engage with the participants is NEVER boring. I've tried watching many other shows like this, and the host(s) get redundant and stale, making the show difficult to remain interested in. Just a happy pair of people. I highly recommend watching them [on this show]...and I hope they'll be asked to host others Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Having now consumed all but the final episode this is probably my favorite iteration of this genre. It does a good job of acknowledging the drama there is, but the stakes never feel painstakingly high and the tone remains one more of fun and creativity than something that is purely about the pressure to perform. The panel of judges being highly qualified grandmas makes it much better than it's namesake Making It- which suffers from some less than charismatic judging. I will say one team made it WAY too far before being eliminated when you compared their performance to others and it showed in the pins/broaches (the trophies they get for winning) but worked out in the end. A lot of shows like this would benefit from a judging system that trails week-to-week like racing based off points to reward some of the more consistent contestants from being eliminated by a single mediocre bake/craft. Samberg and Rudolph are there purely as comedy, if you enjoy their brand of comedy you'll still enjoy it here. But this is much more wholesome. It shoots the gap between Nailed it and Great British Bake-off. We've enjoyed every episode and will be anxiously awaiting a renewal. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a show where instead of showing us new techniques or unmitigated disasters, the hosts spend time with badly planned comedic interludes and. Song and dance numbers. The judges are a number of retired professional bakers who love everything and at the end, lower the boom. It's somewhat entertaining.
