Kate is a single, working-class mother of three who's hired to clean a luxury yacht that belongs to Leonardo -- a selfish, spoiled and wealthy Mexican playboy. The first OVERBOARD won't be remembered as one of cinema's great comedies, but it was amiable, a lot of fun and had a wonderful rapport between Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. This needless remake, which often lifts dialogue word for word from the original, is pretty much dead in the water. The biggest problem by far is that Derbez and Faris have zero chemistry. And it doesn't help matters that he looks old enough to be her father. Derbez is downright horrible in the first act and gradually works up to adequate by the end. Faris starts out well but peters out by the end. And when these two share scenes together, well, I've seen nuns with more sexual chemistry. A slight change in the climax from the original movie is catastrophic and lessens what impact the end of the movie could have had. We wanted Kurt and Goldie to end up together in the first movie. Sadly, the same can't be said for Eugenio and Anna.
