What to Know

Critics Consensus

Angelina Jolie displays a deft directorial hand in her feature debut, but In the Land of Blood and Honey's contrived love story never mixes in comfortably with depictions of the Bosnian genocide.

Roger Moore Tribune News Service It's a good movie on a great subject, even if it is well short of a great film. Rated: 3/4 Mar 23, 2012 Full Review Leah Rozen TheWrap Overall, Jolie has nothing to be embarrassed about and much of which to be proud with this movie. Even in moments where the film doesn't quite work, she shows ample evidence of ambition and a discerning director's eye. Mar 2, 2012 Full Review Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Jolie, however, shows great promise as a visual storyteller, even though this love story is stretched too thinly. Rated: 3/5 Feb 24, 2012 Full Review Felicia Feaster Charleston City Paper In the Land of Blood and Honey is a surprisingly ambitious, nuanced study of the collision of human psychology with the black-and-white lines war presumes. Jan 17, 2020 Full Review Julian Lytle Ignorant Bliss The film also at times drags on a bit too long. It seems trying to fit in a little bit of time from each year of the war was a bit too much and not needed to get across the themes and point of the film. Rated: C+ Jan 11, 2020 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens Set against the backdrop of the war, violent and graphic and made with no apologies... is the story of love, conflict and the emotional, ethical, physical and moral toll it takes not only on individuals, but on people as a whole. Georgan G The depth of fear, and loss of control shown here are two things many women experience. Having no control is much, much worse in war. As is fear. The acting was very well done. I love that Angelina Jolie wrote, directed & produced this--as her 1st film! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Crap! Класично смеће од креатуре која је и сама по себи ментално оболело смеће Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member En tierra de sangre y miel [2011] Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Powerful portrayal of a nasty conflict. Parts very difficult to watch. I though performances were outstanding even if the “love story” was a little thin and unconvincing. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/11/18 Full Review Audience Member Watching is a ride of emotions twisting the heart and speaks volumes to the female EXISTENCE during wartime which is often ignored during male directed Films. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This is just terrible... Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
