Caryn James BBC.com You've probably never seen a Pinocchio who dances for Mussolini, but Guillermo del Toro's dark, stirring, yet life-affirming take on the classic tale of the puppet who becomes a real boy has more in common with Pan's Labyrinth and The Shape of Water... Dec 27, 2022 Full Review Scott Tobias The Reveal (Substack) As beautiful as del Toro’s Pinocchio is in design and conceit—the curved ridges on Geppetto’s beard alone are a wonder—the film never quite gains the intended emotional power. Rated: 3/5 Dec 19, 2022 Full Review Robert Levin Newsday Del Toro's re-imagining of the Pinocchio story is not for the youngest kids, but anyone interested in what happens when a brilliant filmmaker takes on classic material will find a lot to admire. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 19, 2022 Full Review Daniel Allen Loud and Clear Reviews Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is a delight, an utterly charming film with its fair share of laughs. The stop-motion animation is gorgeous, and the cast (particularly Mann, Bradley and McGregor) are superbly spirited. Rated: 4.5/5 Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Calum Cooper In Their Own League Call it a hot take if you must, but “Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio” might actually be the best Pinocchio adaptation out there, and that’s including the 1940 Disney classic. Rated: 5/5 Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net Like the greatest stories we tell, Del Toro’s Pinocchio understands the world in a way that is timeless. It captures the heartache and pain, the beauty and joy, and the profound miracle of living. It is the best film Del Toro has made to date. Rated: 5/5 Jul 3, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Adam S Another Del Toro masterpiece Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Fran R Loved It! It was the cutest story. Different from Disney's, but such a sweet story. I love how they made Pinocchio so unique. He was most adorable. Loved the characters, the music & songs. The twist on the story from the original Pinocchio kept you wondering. It was a very touching father and son relationship story with humor and sadness and acceptance. Very beautiful. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Fran J. I took my 2 grandsons 5 and 8. They were mesmerized and totally into it. Very entertaining and so well done. I hope parents take there children to see. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/23 Full Review Larry Very beautiful animation accompanied by good music and voices. Meaningful and moving. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Debbra The puppets were well made and the story was sweet. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/08/23 Full Review John Excellent animation and visuals but the story lacked the mysticism of the original. Del Toro sacrificed innocence and organic emotional wonder for a grounded reality. Adults will enjoy this more than kids. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/20/22 Full Review Read all reviews
