What to Know

Critics Consensus

Ghostbusters does an impressive job of standing on its own as a freewheeling, marvelously cast supernatural comedy -- even if it can't help but pale somewhat in comparison with the classic original.

Catherine Scott Bitch Media Ghostbusters is fun, it's silly, and it doesn't take itself too seriously. Feb 11, 2021 Full Review Alexandra Heller-Nicholas ABC News (Australia) The new Ghostbusters film is a smart, spectacular addition to the series. Aug 27, 2018 Full Review Soraya Nadia McDonald Andscape Frankly, if you're going to make a new Ghostbusters with a female foursome as the leads and you're facing a backlash from clanging dungeons of the woman-hating internet, it seems like it would make for an epic opportunity to troll them. Sep 26, 2017 Full Review Zach Pope Zach Pope Reviews See this film for Ghostbuster laughs and a new era of Ghostbusters Aug 7, 2023 Full Review Brian T. Carney Washington Blade Ghostbusters offered a fresh and fun spin on the classic testosterone-fueled comedy and featured Chris Hemsworth as a dim-witted himbo, delightful cameos by cast members from the original movie, and a wonderful breakout performance by Kate McKinnon. Dec 21, 2022 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Instead of doing something memorable with the great chemistry we see from the cast, “Ghostbusters” settles for being another in a long line of mediocre 80’s movie remakes. Ralf_Wolf the jokes fell flat ... I Love You ALL!!!! And to put this out there also, I Loved all the original Ghostbusters movies too!!!! They ALL have a very special place in my heart!!!!!! Can't wait for Ghostbusters 2 with the women!!!!!!... WE NEED this!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/09/24 Full Review A S I'm not sure what this movie is trying to be. It seems like a poorly written attempt at slapstick comedy tossed on top of a mediocre story. Feels like it was written by late night comedy writers who have never been involved in a movie before. Can't be saved by a cast that acts like they are in a series of Saturday Night Live skits rather than a cohesive movie. Charles Dance does a great job, but it almost pulls you out of the movie because his great job... doesn't fit with the rest of the film. What a weird one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 06/26/24 Full Review Glenn B Yes this was a movie nobody asked for, but I finally sat down and watched it and was pleasantly surprised. It was a funny movie and a good watch. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Ed R Absolutely hysterical! Great tie in with the originals with an SNL twist! Must watch! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/17/24 Full Review Ryan B i enjoyed it but man production on this movie is rough- i don’t know if this is weird but it felt on the cusp of a disney channel movie. actors were the only saving grace, however mellisa mccarthy can be a little much at times.
