Long ago, Abraham Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer) imprisoned the infamous Count Dracula (Gerard Butler) within a vault inside Carfax Abbey. In the present day, Van Helsing relies on Dracula's immortal blood to remain alive. But then thieves breaks into the vault and steal the vampire's coffin, thinking it contains something valuable. Liberated from his prison, Dracula seizes the opportunity to escape, but Van Helsing sets out to banish him to the crypt once again.

Butler is certainly charismatic as the undead bloodsucker, despite only having two expressions: slight bafflement, and, when an attractive neck comes into view, that of a small boy who's just heard an ice-cream van tinkling round the corner.

Our favourite blood sucker returned to cinemas in 2000 in 'Dracula 2000'. SYNOPSIS: 'A group of thieves breaks into a chamber expecting to find paintings, but instead they release the count himself, who travels to New Orleans to find his nemesis' daughter, Mary Van Helsing.' The film comes with the catch phrase 'the most seductive evil of all time...' which is ironic as this is Gerard Butler 6 years before his body transformation for '300'. He's more pail and scrawny here. This seemed to be an excuse to bring the famous character back to the silver screen with a bunch of gorgeous 20-30 somethings for him to devour. Unfortunately it doesn't work, and their obvious plan for a sequel clearly never came off either. The film is occasionally interesting, maybe even intriguing, with it's Dracula origin twist but it doesn't lead anywhere remotely worth a recommendation to watch it. Most of the cast went into bigger and better things but unfortunately there's very little life here. 3/10
