Theo S Although the beginning looked somewhat promising I could never fully understand what was going on throughout the film. Rated 3/5 Stars •  Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/16/24 Full Review Joshua V I don't like automata 1 star ⭐️ movie I was on my phone the entire time I am not really into sci-fi movies but I gave it chances because Antonio banderas was in it but no he was amazing but this role was not for him he was a producer on this movie and was not best work as a producer for this movie I don't recommend this movie to anyone I definitely not going to watch again or buy this movie completely forgettable Rated 1/5 Stars •  Rated 1 out of 5 stars 10/31/23 Full Review P C This is an absolutely beautiful film, with an astonishing emotional resonance, I don't know why so many folks are so down on this movie, it's incredibly ambitious beautiful to look at and genuinely moving. It's reminiscent of "Dark City" in its tone, and has some absolutely unforgettable imagery. The richness of the ideas swirling around in this film may not all get realized because they're simply isn't enough time, but unless you're completely without imagination you can fill in the blanks, the film provides all kinds of provocative takes on on what it is to be human, what it is to be intelligent, all issues we're grappling with today with the release of chat GPT and such. I can honestly say there are a few films in this genre that showed as much respect for its kindred films, and if you watch to the very end of the closing credits we even get to hear a rendition of "Daisy", a wonderful homage to Hal in 2001. The score is also sublime and sets the mood beautifully. And the robots are just splendid, equal to anything I've seen filmed, easily the equal, on an obviously lower budget, to anything I've seen in say "iRobot", which was a far weaker and much dumber film with no ambitions anywhere near the level of this. It can move slowly and does get a little bit bogged down in the third act but then redeems itself at the very end. There is a scene between the human and the artificial intelligence that I would like to have seen more of because the dialogue is splendid. The human asks a robot "Who made you?" and the robot answers "Nobody made me, It just happened, just like with humans." Another lovely interaction occurs when a human accuses the robot of simply being nothing more than a kind of machine and the robot says "that's like me saying you're nothing more than an ape." At the end you'll feel like you read a great novel short story that could have gone in any number of directions, but ultimately this is a very satisfying, very intelligent, very emotionally resonant film with imagery and sound that you will not soon forget. If you're willing to take the tempo down a bit, and allow for suspension of disbelief, as you must always with any film that is meant to entertain in this way, you will have an excellent time. In the future they drive cars that were made in the early 2000s. For some reason computers took a step back and fax machines made a comeback. Melanie Griffith, just like today. Is a horrible actor in the future (actually, shes even worse in the future). If you are going to watch this. There will be a few things you will have to do first. The first thing, you will need to ponder, Do I want to give roughly an hour and forty minutes of my life to watch this. The second thing, ask yourself. Do I enjoy watching paint dry or grass grow. This is rather slow paced. Finally, the third thing. This one's a little out there. After watching this. You will have this strange need lingering in your brain to build a time machine. You're going to want to go back in time to convince yourself to never watch this. You're also going to want to stop the guy that wrote and directed this by any means necessary. Don't waste your time. Time machines aren't possible to make. Trust me, I now know. *on a side note. If you could invent a time machine there are endless possibilities. You could go back in time and invest on sure things, place bets on sporting events, guide your younger self to not make certain mistakes and even prevent horrible tragedies from happening. Yet, none of this will cross your mind. Your sole purpose is to end any hope of this movie being made.
