Rob V One of the best iterations of A Christmas Carol that I’ve seen, and there are a lot of them. Patrick Stewart makes this one excellent. His live, one-man show of A Christmas Carol sets him up for greatness in this movie-version made by Turner Network Television. The supporting cast are fantastic as well, and the pace is great — the scenes with Scrooge and Belle as youths don’t drag on like they do in most versions. Would Charles Dickens appreciate this one? Who knows? I don’t really care. I like it. Not only do the wit and humor of Dicken's old English finally come through with sparkling clarity and depth of meaning for us modern speakers, but the ease with which Scrooge, Marley, and the various ghosts and others provide a real, palpable, and relatable experience that effectively transports the viewer to that very same time and place for a Christmas experience like no other! Definitely a must-see for any fan of Dickens and any lover of Christmas! C Scott (1984), though it's a tough ordering, could vary a place or two year over year. The 1937 Reginald Owen is fairly good as well, messes a bit more with the details, but has it's share of memorable takes. The more recent stuff, is pretty disposable. (excepting Scrooged, of course).
