Jackass Forever (2022) Matt Looker A film that can unite every country, every culture, every political leaning with the universally hilarious sight of tiny boxing glove arms rapidly pummelling a fat mans nutsack.

Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) Matt Looker If, one hour into the film, you realise you haven't seen much actual Wonder Woman action, you don't have to look far to see the reason why: she doesn't have anything to fight

Tenet (2020) Matt Looker Nolan doesn't seem to care too much about leaving his viewers confused. The question is whether a confused audience can still be an entertained audience.

Cinema Verite (2011) Kirsty Harrison It's difficult to watch the innocence of a family be exploited, but at the same time fascinating to see how fragile marriage and family can be when it's held up for scrutiny.

You, Me and Dupree (2006) Ali Gray You, Me And Dupree is a film that is almost instantly forgettable. Even now, a few hours after watching it, I'm struggling to remember character names...

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) Matt Looker Harley Quinn really finds her feet and moves on from the Joker, and from Suicide Squad, and she is stronger and better for it. It's just a shame that she takes so long to get there.

The Invisible Man (2020) Matt Looker Between the dark territory that the film explores ... and Moss' gripping portrayal of a woman on the edge of her sanity ... this Invisible Man movie has giant invisiballs

Velvet Buzzsaw (2019) Luke Whiston Velvet Buzzsaw isn't an objectively bad film by any stretch, it just feels held back.

Isn't It Romantic (2019) Luke Whiston It's a deft setup for a number of clever sight and continuation gags as romcom tropes are flipped and flipped again.

Behind the Curve (2018) Luke Whiston The subjects are hopelessly blinkered and need either a good talking to or, in the worst cases, intervention and rehabilitation.

Triple Frontier (2019) Luke Whiston There are at least three or four good films buried within Triple Frontier but they went with the surface level stuff and called it a day.

I Am Mother (2019) Luke Whiston This is where I Am Mother distinguishes itself - bypassing doomsday to what happens in the aftermath, and how we come back.

Period. End of Sentence. (2018) Luke Whiston Period. End of Sentence. may be a fairly flimsy documentary that never lives up to that puntastic title, but what it does do is serve as a necessary conversation starter.

Unicorn Store (2017) Luke Whiston Maybe we should start celebrating how close we came to fulfilling our dreams more often - that might encourage us to not give up and find a way to realise them eventually.

The Highwaymen (2019) Luke Whiston It's a shame, then, that this meeting of weirdo star power is never more than pedestrian...

Shaft (2019) Luke Whiston Whatever Shaft is saying about race, authority, age, gender or masculinity - which are interesting talking points no matter how badly fumbled they are - I keep going back to the rancid humour.

Elizabeth Harvest (2018) Luke Whiston Elizabeth Harvest is an effective enough sci-fi thriller which puts the science on the backseat in favour of shock twists.

Point Blank (2019) Luke Whiston Point Blank takes a by-the-numbers plot and floats to a finish. There's nothing wrong with that. Just nothing note-worthy. And in the battle for our attention that's not going to pay the bills.

See You Yesterday (2019) Luke Whiston As a debut feature from writer-director Stefon Bristol and co-writer Fredrica Bailey, See You Yesterday is an ambitious sci-fi in its own right, and a worthy entry into the canon of black representation.

Always Be My Maybe (2019) Luke Whiston ...a noble idea, but nothing close to the near-philosophical musings on life, loss, belonging and contentment is found here.

Rim of the World (2019) Luke Whiston Films aren't just a collection of sensation-grabbing set-pieces - they have rules to engage with your brain, and viewers need someone to connect with.

The Haunting of Sharon Tate (2019) Luke Whiston It's a shame spiral all the way to the bottom of the barrel. You can make your own helter skelter jokes.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019) Luke Whiston It's refreshing and never not genuine.

The Wandering Earth (2019) Luke Whiston The Wandering Earth isn't a bad film at all if you want to kill a few hours wondering what is going to explode next - it's just hampered by an overly-rigid and predictable structure.

Wine Country (2019) Luke Whiston This seems like one of those films where everyone got in a room with a rough idea of what was happening and ad-libbed, expecting the results to be natural cohesive comedy genius.

The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience (2019) Luke Whiston The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience is a dizzying mix of music and visuals that balances itself perfectly between overt ridiculousness, telling a bittersweet story, and respect for the craft.

Polar (2019) Luke Whiston Polar is a cliched, sloppy mess of sub-standard action and forgettable lines that might entertain someone who has never seen a movie from the last decade of R-rated action cinema.

Avengement (2019) Luke Whiston While Avengement isn't exactly a classic in any regard, it's a step in the right direction for a new breed of British thumpfests that - if Adkins can wield his sensibilities correctly - may just begin to rival their Eastern origins.

In the Tall Grass (2019) Luke Whiston It all sounds intriguingly mysterious, but in play it's a frustratingly wrought sequence of vague weirdness that seems to be weird for the sake of it, until finally it has to somehow end.

Between Two Ferns: The Movie (2019) Luke Whiston The challenge is how to retrofit backstory to a format that was never meant to have any story at all, which hangs a lot of faith on an audience tuning in that probably weren't all that curious...

Guava Island (2019) Luke Whiston In just under an hour we get a tight and surprisingly dark plot with a powerful message about the evils of capitalism, charismatic performances from all involved, and some pleasing visuals of the island.

The Laundromat (2019) Luke Whiston Ultimately you'll get the most out of The Laundromat if you're a Soderbergh completist, or looking for some slightly dated, mildly bizarre lightweight human drama inviting you to boo and tut at the screen.

Earthquake Bird (2019) Luke Whiston Earthquake Bird is definitely a cut above Netflix's usual fare. On a surface level the film doesn't have that weird plastic sheen Netflix releases always seem to be cheapened by.

6 Underground (2019) Luke Whiston It's not clever. It's not classy. He thinks it is. But it's bold and tough, and you will respect the awesome might of military technology, else be visited in the night by wicked-rad army ninjas in stealth Blackhawks...

The King (2019) Luke Whiston ...between Chalamet's solemn commitment and Pattinson's overt silliness there's an impeccably well made film, that feels authentically grounded when it comes to the costumes and interior decor of the Middle Ages...

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019) Matt Looker This follow-up feels like a lack of conviction from the franchise as a whole. This is despite the film being just about the best possible version of a final Star Wars film.

The Irishman (2019) Luke Whiston ...still a treat for us to see these giants of cinema coming together to do their thing but the wear is beginning to show, even if the will is strong and the mind is still sharp. Adjust your expectations accordingly.
