CANANDAIGUA — In response to anticipated rainfall Wednesday, July 10, Ontario County is making sandbags available for city of Canandaigua residents to pick up.

Starting July 9, sandbags will be available for pickup at the Ontario County Safety Training Facility, 2914 County Road 48, Canandaigua. Motorists are asked to drive to the back of the access road and the sandbags will be adjacent to the fire training burn building.

Residents can pick up sandbags 24/7 as the gate will remain open through July 12.

The remnants of Hurricane Beryl are expected to reach Western New York by Wednesday morning, with Rochester expecting 2 to 4 inches of rain, based on the current AccuWeather forecast of the storm’s path and rainfall totals.

Sandbags will be available at the Ontario County Safety Training Facility beginning July 9 in anticipation of heavy rains forecast for July 10. In this July 2023 file photo, flood victims pick up sandbags at the Canandaigua School District Administration Building.

Residents are asked to first call 585-396-4310, if during normal business hours, to ensure there is enough supply for everyone.

In thanking Ontario County for providing the sandbags, Canandaigua City Manager John Goodwin said this is a proactive measure and not intended to cause alarm.

Updates will also be posted at www.canandaiguanewyork.gov and on the city of Canandaigua Facebook page.
