The Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association recently honored its top senior student-athletes for each high school. Cornwall selected Samantha Miller and Oliver Jang.

Samantha Miller

Varsity Sports: Volleyball; Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field

Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: National Honor Society President; Class Treasurer; Morgan’s Message; Best Buddies; HOSA; Safe School Ambassadors; High Honor Roll 

Athletic Honors: Three Varsity Volleyball letters; Indoor and Outdoor Track Varsity letters

Community Service: Co-Founding Member of The Cornwall Cleanup Crew 

Future Plans: University of Pittsburgh, to major in Biochemistry and minor in Spanish on the Pre-Med track

Oliver Jang

Academic Honors/Extracurricular Activities: Eagle Scout; High Honor Roll and Principal’s Commendation; AP Chemistry and Intro to Calculus Excellence Awards; Principal’s Award for consistency and enthusiasm (kindergarten); National Honor Society member of Bulletin Board Committee and Service Committee; Senior Leader of Student Athlete Leadership Council; Vice President and Team Captain of Math Team; All Section DUSO Math League; NYSML meet qualifier and DUSO representative; Treasurer of Concert Band and Jazz Band; NYSSMA Level VI piano solo score 95 — 4-time International Level Piano Guild Performances, one-time National Level Piano Guild Performance, two-time State Level Piano Guild Performance, one-time Local Level Piano Guild Performance; Second in Cornwall Lions Club Peace Poster Contest 

Athletic Honors: Boys Most Valuable Player in Cross Country; 25th in New York State Public High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships, 165th in NYS Federation; 10th in NYSPHSAA Cross Country Championships, 59th in NYS Federation; fifth in NYS Section IX Cross Country Championships; second in NYS Section IX Cross Country Championships; NYSPHSAA Scholar Athlete; Team Captain for Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track & Field; thee Varsity letters; multiple Top-10 all-time school performances in Cross Country

Community Service: 200 hours of community service; volunteered at local food bank, Cornwall Cleanup Crew and town events; Eagle Scout project was designing and building a trail at Black Rock Forest

Future Plans: SUNY Stony Brook, to major in Physics and hope to participate in Cross Country and Track
