Karrie Baloga's dream of competing in the Olympics will have to wait another four years.

The Cornwall High School graduate and Northern Arizona freshman placed 11th in her heat and 21st overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Oregon, on Monday evening.

Baloga finished in 9 minutes, 51.79 seconds, which was only nine seconds slower than her All-American effort at the recent NCAA championships. But she was in the quicker of two heats, the top five finishers in her race advancing by place but also posting the five fastest times in preliminaries.

Gabbi Jennings won handily in 9:23.88, ahead of Marisa Howard (9:26.38), Olivia Markezich (9:26.67), Lexy Halladay (9:27.36) and Allie Ostrander (9:29.32). The sixth-fastest time was the first-heat winner, Kaylee Mitchell (9:29.54).

Baloga would have needed to be a top-five heat finisher, or among the next four fastest times to advance.

Baloga, the new American Under-20 record holder, ran consistently in 11th place, occasionally reaching as high as tenth, in her race. Her 1,000-meter splits were 3:16.09, 3:16.19 and 3:19.51.

The Trials will conclude on Sunday. The Paris Olympics will be held July 26-August 11.

The 2028 Summer Olympics will be hosted in Los Angeles.

Army junior Emily Fink, from Three Lakes, Wisc., finished tenth in the women's hammer finals on Sunday. Following two foul throws, Fink got off a toss of 196 feet, 2 inches, finishing more than 23 feet behind the eighth and last qualifier who got an additional three throws. Fink had set a personal-best with a throw of 217-5 during Friday's qualifying round, also placing tenth. Annette Echikunwoke won the final at 245 feet, six inches ahead of DeAnna Price.

Army senior Luke Griner will compete in the first round of the 800 meters at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Classmate Brian Matthews will run the first round of the 400 meter hurdles two hours later at 9:20 p.m.

On Friday, Army senior Brooke Stratman will compete in the women's javelin preliminaries at 7 p.m.

Marist College will have two competitors in the 20,000 meter racewalk at 10:30 a.m. Saturday: junior Marissa Sciotto of Farmingville and sophomore Mia Priore of White Plains. Marist and Monroe-Woodbury graduate Katie Miale is also entered at another Trials.
