Cambridge Bay man arrested following “Shelter in Place” alert issued.

On July 7, at approximately 7:45 a.m., Cambridge Bay RCMP were called to a residence on Okpik Street, in response to a distraught man who was reported to have a firearm. Local RCMP were able to establish a safe perimeter in the area and attend the scene where the man was contained within the residence.

The RCMP issued a "Shelter in Place" alert for residence on Okpik Street and asked residence to stay away from the area.

At approximately 9:35 a.m., efforts to negotiate were successful and the man surrendered to police peacefully. The "Shelter in Place" was lifted, after the man was taken into custody.

On July 7, 2024, Dodi Mala (26) was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:

- Carless Use of a Firearm, Section 86(1) C.C
- Pointing a Firearm, Section 87(1) C.C
- Carry a Firearm for the purpose of committing an offence, Section 88(1) C.C
- Possess a Firearm without a license, Contrary to Section 91(1) C.C
- Two counts of Uttering Threats, Section 264.1(1) C.C
