I Dressed Like a Divorcée in a Rom-Com for a Week

Can dressing like Meryl Streep transform me into the croissant-baking woman I aspire to be?

The best-dressed character in any romantic comedy is not the bumbling wide-eyed ingenue or the dashing male love interest, but rather the divorcée. Think Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give, Natasha Richardson in The Parent Trap, and the mother of them all, Meryl Streep in It’s Complicated. Think menocore.

What these women all have in common is a lust for life, casual culinary know-how, and neutrals. Lots and lots of neutrals. So Rebecca Jennings undertook an investigation for It’s Fashion: Can wearing crisp shirtdresses, layered shawls, linen pants, and entire outfits in shades of cream cheese help turn us into the satisfied, self-possessed, croissant-baking divorcées we all aspire to be?
